Artic Driving Lessons

Cat. EC (Artic Lessons)

Driver CPC Courses

You can move up to driving an Artic truck after you have passed and obtained your full (C) category licence. If you have previously sat a theory test for your ‘C’ learner permit you do not have to sit another theory test to get your EC learner permit.

The driving test is the same length of time as the rigid test.  You will have to do a left or right reverse manoeuvre and the tester will decide which one you will need to do.  The artic truck is much more manoeuvrable than a rigid and requires different approach to junctions and reversing.  You are not required to do a practical CPC test on the day of your driving test for the EC.

Our state of the art Daf C.F 430 is fitted with a 16 speed ZF gearbox and this is the most popular gearbox you will find in 90% of all artic trucks.  Behind the cab we have a 30ft tanker trailer and this helps with manoeuvring and reversing as you can see the trailer wheels.  It also has just the right amount of weight on board so that when you go driving for a living you will have some experience of a loaded trailer.

Training for the artic truck is very different for each person. It will depend on what experience you have and if you are driving a truck at the moment.  We always recommend that a person takes their first training session and the instructor will be able to assess your ability and advise you from there.

Test centres covered:  Tallaght , Churchtown,  Finglas,  Tullamore  & Kilkenny (these are the only test centres in Leinster that do the EC test)
